While book publishing is an ever-shifting landscape, one thing that hasn’t changed since the first commercial book was published - good reviews sell books, good reviews create awareness and good reviews build credibility. Authors need the credibility an objective review delivers. But how can an independently published author get credible reviews when the mainstream media largely ignores self published books?

Dog Ear Publishing is please to offer the BlueInk Review service to exactly answer that question.

[from the BlueInk website]
Founded by respected literary agent Patricia Moosbrugger and award-winning former book review editor of the Rocky Mountain News, Patti Thorn, BlueInk is the gold standard in reviews of self-published work. In the process, we bring to this ever-expanding world a user-friendly online experience that offers a bridge to larger distribution.

...all BlueInk reviews are honest appraisals, written by professionals drawn largely from mainstream media outlets or editors who have worked at well-respected publishing houses. As [BlueInk] critics discover worthy titles, [they] celebrate the finest of these books — featuring them in high profile positions on [the BlueInk] web page and vigorously promoting them to publishers, librarians and literary agents and editors.

In this way, more than a simple source for reviews, BlueInk acts as means for readers and industry professionals to find the "next generation" books worth selling, stocking, purchasing and reading.

As an added benefit, any review you receive through Dog Ear’s Reviews Program can be added to your book’s cover and marketing materials free of charge.

FAQ

Since I’m paying for the review, will it be positive?

BlueInk reviewers are experienced professionals who give honest, impartial evaluations of the books they receive. The resulting reviews can be positive, negative or anywhere in between. Dog Ear can guarantee that you'll receive a fair and unbiased assessment of your work and its potential in the marketplace. If the review is negative, you will have the option of keeping it private and simply using the assessment as feedback to improve your craft. If it’s positive, you will be able to use the review to market your book to consumers or to catch the attention of a literary agent or conventional publisher.

Does publication date affect my ability to get a review?

In the interest of introducing consumers and industry influencers to self-published books they may otherwise never discover, BlueInk does not put any publication date restrictions on submissions. You may order a review for a book that’s been on the market for 10 years or for a book that doesn’t even have a publication date set yet.

How does BlueInk decide which Indie reviews get promoted?

Editors select certain reviews to feature, 100% at their discretion, and they typically choose the strongest reviews in a variety of genres. They also choose two Indie reviews to feature in each edition of their email newsletter, which is distributed to more than 50,000 industry influencers and consumers each week.
