Author Sales System Reports

Dog Ear issues Author Net Sales Payments on a quarterly basis. Included with each check is a form detailing your sales for the Current Quarter, Previous Quarter, and Year To Date, as well as information about sales through Select Channel partners - Amazon, Baker&Taylor, Barnes&Noble (both DC - Distribution Center, and Store), and Ingram.

The form is very simple to read - and we've outlined the various sections below. There is a Glossary at the bottom of this page that defines the terms we use in the report.

Here are the full reports - there are several sections each outlined below.

AUTHOR BOOK SALES - DISTRIBUTION

Distribution Sales are those sales that occur through our primary retail and wholesale partners - Ingram, Baker & Taylor, Amazon, Barnes&Noble.

The first section contains details about your book. This is how the accounts see your title information and data, including Book Title, Author Name, ISBN (same as SKU), Binding, Trim Size, the List Price, your Wholesale Discount to the trade, and whether your book is Returnable.

  Previous Quarter Sales
This section includes information about your book sales from the quarter immediately prior to the current one:

Year To Date & Notes
This is a summary of all sales Year To Date as of the month indicated. This MAY include sales past the Current Quarter. The Notes section are important details communicated to you by Dog Ear about your sales.

  Current Quarter Sales
This section is the Sales Quarter data that is included in the current Author Net Sales Payment check. There is a section for both US and UK sales.

Select US Channel Sales
Both the Previous Quarter Sales and the Current Quarter Sales have a section called Select US Sales. Our primary wholesale partners report sales data to us - note these are purchases of your books, not necessarily sales to consumers. Amazon and Barnes & Noble will often purchase ALL their inventory from Ingram or Baker & Taylor - just because you don't see sales data for Amazon or B&N doesn't mean they don't have your book.

AUTHOR BOOK SALES - DIRECT

Direct Sales are those sales that do not go through our distrubition partners - including author purchases, web site (both Dog Ear and the author's) orders, Open For Business orders, and any miscellaneous purchases directly from Dog Ear

The first section of the report mimics the Distribution Sales Report - it contains details about your book, including Book Title, Author Name, ISBN (same as SKU), Binding, Trim Size, the List Price, your Wholesale Discount to the trade, and whether your book is Returnable.

The next portion of the report outlines the Current Sales Period time-frame and sales - you'll see a date range under Current Period SIBI Sales. The Period Totals are the sum of the 3 sales data tables that will follow.

Sales Data Tables -

There are 3 ways in which book sales can be generated 'direct' from Dog Ear - via your Author Bookstore (Open For Business, Masterpiece, Book-O-Mart); via our site , your author ordering link, a standard author web site, or anywhere you've placed a 'direct' order buton; or, finally, from any account or specialty sale (such as a corporate sale) that has occurred direct from Dog Ear Publishing. Each of these sections reports separately - and each calculates profit differently (please contact us for the exact details on your book). You'll see that your purchases are also listed on this report - as "Promo Code" field will reflect your unique author discount code.
